Brahms Requiem
June 12th & 13th, 2010
Due to the extraordinary appeal of its sold out 2009 concert, the Pasadena Master Chorale is reprising Carmina Burana for a wider 2010 audience.
Known to most for its haunting, hard-driving opening (“O Fortuna”), Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is based on a set of bawdy medieval poems about love, lust, beauty, fate and springtime – not to mention plenty of hearty drinking! Written in a vigorous, percussive style, Orff’s choral masterpiece is comprised of primal rhythms and folk-like melodies with bold dynamic shifts, humorous interjections and moments of exquisite lyricism. A perennial favorite among film and TV scorers, Carmina Burana is one of the best-known works of classical music in the world.
Make plans now to join the 75-member Chorale, featured soloists, two pianists, five percussionists and the Washington Middle School Glee Club – all in a rich acoustic setting – for this extraordinary chamber version of Carmina Burana.
